Dora Woven Jute Tote Bag — Multi Navy Stripe | KORISSA

A large square tote bag handwoven from jute in a dense flat weave — deep navy ground with a vertical stripe pattern of cream, yellow, and green running symmetrically from edge to edge. Woven jute handles. Flat base, structured sides, open top. Size: 16” wide × 16” tall (40.5 × 40.5cm) with 7” (17.5cm) handle drop. Designed and curated by KORISSA, handmade by Fair Trade artisans in Bangladesh.

The Stripe — One of the Oldest Patterns in Textile History

The vertical stripe is one of the first patterns humans wove into cloth — a direct consequence of the loom, where different colored threads in the warp create vertical lines as the weft passes through. Every stripe in a woven textile is a structural decision, not a printed one: the color is in the fiber itself, locked into the weave, and it does not fade, peel, or wash out.

The color combination on the Dora — deep navy, warm cream, soft yellow, and sage green — is a palette that has appeared in coastal and Mediterranean textile traditions for centuries. Navy as the ground: authoritative, deep, versatile. Cream as the first stripe: a breath of light against the dark. Yellow as the accent: warm, optimistic, the color of sun on water. Green as the detail: the color of coastal plants, of the edge where land meets sea. Together they read as summer, travel, and the particular pleasure of being somewhere warm with something useful in your hands.

How It Improves Your Daily Life

At 16” square, the Dora is a genuinely large bag — large enough for a full market shop, a beach day, a weekend away, or a day of errands that requires carrying more than a small tote can hold. The flat base means it stands upright when set down. The woven jute handles are strong enough to carry a full load and comfortable enough to carry over the shoulder or in the hand. The dense flat weave holds its shape under weight without sagging.

The stripe pattern means the bag is immediately recognizable on a crowded beach, a market stall, or an airport carousel. It does not disappear into a crowd.

Why Woven Jute?

Jute is one of the strongest natural fibers available — it handles heavy loads without stretching or tearing. The flat weave used here is denser and more structured than a loose basket weave, giving the bag its square shape and its ability to hold form under weight. Jute is fully biodegradable, grown without pesticides, and develops a natural patina with use. The colors are woven in — no dyes applied after weaving, no risk of color transfer or fading from washing.

Fair Trade Artisan-Made

Designed and curated by KORISSA, handwoven by Fair Trade artisans in Bangladesh. Fair wages, safe working conditions, community investment. Slight variations in stripe width, weave density, and handle length are inherent to the handweaving process. No two bags are identical.
