The Bread Basket — One of the Oldest Objects on the Table

The basket predates the plate, the bowl, and the dish. Before fired clay, before turned wood, before cast metal — there was woven fiber, shaped into a container for carrying and presenting food. The bread basket in particular has been a fixture of the shared table across every culture that bakes: a vessel that holds the most fundamental food, placed at the center where everyone can reach it.

The Savar is a contemporary version of this ancient object — made from seagrass harvested from coastal wetlands, woven by hand using the same spiral technique that basket makers have used for thousands of years, and finished with white cotton handles that give it a clean, modern edge. It is an object with deep roots and a light presence.

Why Seagrass?
