The Chevron — A Pattern That Has Never Gone Out of Style

The chevron — a repeating V-shape, also called a zigzag — is one of the oldest geometric patterns in human decorative history, appearing in prehistoric cave paintings, ancient Greek pottery, medieval heraldry, and contemporary textile design. It is a pattern that the eye follows naturally: the V-shape creates a rhythm that reads as movement, as direction, as energy contained within a repeating structure.

In the Amari bowl, the chevron is not printed or applied — it is woven into the structure of the bowl itself, created by the alternation of black and natural seagrass strands as the weave progresses around the circumference. The pattern is the weave. The weave is the pattern. The result is a bowl that is simultaneously a functional object and a piece of textile art.
